Volunteering FAQs

General

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

If you do not meet the minimum age requirement, you may consider other ways to support us e.g. fundraising for CAS, sponsoring meals, setting up a donation drive for groceries and housekeeping supplies.

Volunteers may be subjected to a security screening conducted by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). This screening procedure will take approximately one month.

Yes, all volunteers will undergo training. Volunteers participating in the Befrienders Programme undergo more intense training to ensure they are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to interact effectively and empathetically with the children and youths at Melrose Home.

We encourage volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months. Additionally, we value long-term partnerships with organisations who are passionate about supporting our cause.

Nevertheless, we do have projects which are suitable for individuals interested in volunteering on an ad-hoc basis.

Please register via this form to express your interest as a volunteer.

For Befrienders Programme

The role of a Befriender entails providing social support to children and youths. This includes actively listening, acting as a positive role model by sharing personal life experiences, and giving encouragement and support as they share their hopes and dreams for the future.

Volunteers participating in the Befrienders Programme must commit for a minimum period of 1 year.

For CSR & Group Volunteering

Please share with us the following details by emailing [email protected]

  • Your organisation’s professional background (e.g. skill sets and experiences)
  • Period of volunteering: preferred months or dates
  • Number of volunteers
  • Details of proposed volunteering idea

If you do not have any volunteering ideas in mind, our team is more than happy to co-curate a programme or activity with you.

All CSR or group volunteering initiatives are conducted only during the school holidays i.e. March, June, September, November and December.

Kindly reach out to us with a minimum of 3 months’ prior notice to your desired start date for volunteering. Your engagement will encompass the whole process, starting from conceptualisation to the execution of the project idea.

Please note that there are limited slots for each school holiday period.

Because our children and youths lack consistent adult figures in their lives, we discourage sporadic activities like outings. This is because they quickly develop connections with individuals, only to see those bonds broken when these individuals leave at the end of the day. Such disruptions can negatively affect the development and growth of our children and youths.

Instead, you can consider exploring volunteering opportunities with us, such as skills-based volunteering, participating in our Befrienders Programme, event volunteering, and more.
